Practice Makes Perfect

I have a confession to make. I do not enjoy life drawing. GASP

And why should I? It’s difficult, the chairs are uncomfortable, the poses are difficult or sometimes just aweful and uninspiring. But I keep going because it’s good practice, to try and figure out the human body in 1 min to 30 hour intervals. The practice I get here I use in all my paintings and especially portraits. So I’ll keep on grumbling with sketchbook and pen in hand and continue to attend life drawing. Do you enjoy going?

Drawing Large

I finally got this out of my system and yet, as I write this, I may be thinking up more compositions for future drawings. I have too much imagination and not enough time or drive? (I’m also lazy haha)

I’ve been doing alot of very detailed and also messy (yes this makes sense) pen drawings in my sketchbook, mostly nature related. I recently decided to do a large one on stone paper as a way to get some creative energy out without using my painting studio during my move. I’ve been in my new place for about 3 weeks and I’ve finally finished it. Which is good because I’m getting anxious to start painting again. Look forward to some more painting studies!

In My Sketchbook

Its been a while since I had a sketchbook reveal which in a way is a good thing as I actually have a whole bunch of sketches to show. Enjoy!

P.s. I haven’t finished that big project I was speaking of before… so no new paintings until the new year. Wait for me!

Life Drawing Nine – Not Much To See

I simply wasn’t feeling life drawing this weekend and couldn’t get inspired by the model or her poses even though she was a very good model. Ah well, we all have our bad drawings days. Here are the decent drawings.

Also, I know that somewhere out there in the world my boyfriend is reading this with a smug look on his face because I swore last week I would not post this **** and yet here it is.
Yeah yeah… Lols

Life drawing, Four!

Last week I was out drawing nudes again! It was a tough one for me this time, not too many successful pieces. Just means I really needed to go! Although, I think I have enough life drawing posts to make it it’s own category. If this is your first time seeing my life drawings, there is now a handy life drawing category on the side so you can go and check out the rest of them without having to filter through all those annoying sketchbook and oil painting posts. Who wants to see that right? Haha!

20130806-094118.jpg First batch of one minute poses.

20130806-094305.jpg Some somewhat successful one minute poses.

20130806-094436.jpg Two minute pose.

20130806-094530.jpg In reflection, 5 minute pose. I think.

20130806-094717.jpg
I can’t sit like that! Especially for seven to ten minutes.

Just eye lashes in this reclining pose.

20130806-095050.jpg My favourite in the mix.

20130806-095255.jpg The last pose of the night. I was pretty tired at this point and just drew like I didn’t care and it turned out alright, surprisingly.

Life Drawing, Rain or Shine!

Last night I decided to brave the weather and go to life drawing. We had an insane thunderstorm on Monday that caused quite a bit of flooding and damage and it was calling for more storms last night. I’m glad I went! Not only did it not rain but our model was amazing. She had such a presence about her! If I were to do a painting about a strong female character, I would model it off of her, for sure, without question! Too bad I was falling asleep at my table and had to leave early.

20130710-090854.jpgMy page of one minute warm ups.

20130710-090957.jpgThe kick! Two minutes each. She actually kicked a little toy football to get into this pose.

20130710-091117.jpg
Quenching her thirst.

20130710-091241.jpgFlip it and she’s holding the mighty scepter!

20130710-091819.jpgFive minutes.

20130710-092848.jpgSeven minutes

20130710-092933.jpgThe portrait on the right looks almost exactly like her. I felt such intensity from that pose and expression!

Acquaintances and Naked Ladies

I went to life-drawing for the second time last night. Now that all my moving stuff is all done and out of the way, maybe now I’ll be able to go on a regular basis. Last night was fun though, met up with an old friend from college, met a comic book artist that I follow on Twitter and drew a naked lady. Can’t go wrong with any of that!

IMG_2552

We started off with ten one minute poses as a warm up and wow did I really need the warm up!

IMG_2553

We then did some two minute poses and I was pretty much warmed up at this point.

IMG_2554

I switched from ballpoint pen to pencil crayon for a different texture in these two minute poses.

IMG_2548

Now we start with five to ten minute poses.

IMG_2555

I like her face in this one…

IMG_2551

This model was really into the “sexy” poses but somehow her face turned “cute” in this one.

IMG_2547

A couple small five minute portrait studies.

Last but not least, my personal favourite, the legs on wall pose.
