Beware The Art School Sketchbook

I’ve had a crazy, inspiring and at one point quite frightening week. During all this craziness do you think I managed to do any artwork? Well, yes, but nothing blog worthy. Trust me you don’t want to see anything I produced this week! So I decided to dig through my old sketchbooks and I found my old 4th year art school sketchbook from 2 years ago. Wow I had fun with that thing! That sketchbook was pure unadulterated experimentation! Enjoy the insanity I am about to show you.

So I made this sketchbook from the cover of an old sketchbook. The pages are old paper folders, newspapers and really anything I could find and bind. Yes, I hand bound this and yes it took me a week.

I have no idea why I drew a silver dinosaur on the cover but I know that I regretted it as soon as I was done. Oh well.

My feet in pencil crayon and marker. I can never draw enough appendages.

I did A LOT of collage in this sketchbook.

So much collage…

Ikea flyers were never safe around me.

Acrylic paint. It says “Hey”.

I made a tiny sketchbook from grid paper and then pasted it into my big sketchbook then watched Red Dragon and drew scenes from the movie. I have no idea why…

I love how she was blind and yet had the most stunning eyes.

Nothing says art student like slight perversion.

Well that’s all I’m showing you! I forgot how much fun I used to have doing collage. Hmm maybe there will be some fresh collage in my sketchbook next week. Who knows!

As a painter and artist I find it hard sometimes to not take my work too seriously, so I created this blog! I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do. In the mean time, if you are curious as to what else I draw, check out my online portfolio, http://jessicacaissie.com/

  1. When I was in college, we had a drawing class in which we had to keep a sketchbook that got turned in for evaluation on a regular basis. A friend of mine once stuck pickle slices in hers… Art kiddos are a special kind of weird. ;)

  2. I am really impressed with your writing skills as well as with the format in your blog. Is this a paid subject matter or did you customize it yourself? Anyway keep up the excellent quality writing, it’s uncommon to see a nice weblog like this one nowadays..
